What schools participate in the program?

Every year, well over 100 students from across the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area participate in 20/20 Leadership programs. The students represent numerous high schools in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas and Jackson County in Missouri.

Who can participate in the program?

The 20/20 Leadership program is designed for the honor, average and at-risk student. Candidates must complete a 4-page application process (during their sophomore year) to be selected. Applications are reviewed and selected by a steering committee consisting of members of the Board of Directors, local community leaders and past graduates of 20/20 Leadership. To enter the Metro Leadership Institute students must successfully complete the 20/20 Leadership program and submit a 3-page application and two reference letters.

History of Leadership 2020

The 20/20 Leadership program was established in 1993 as a 9-month program for 36 high school juniors attending the nine high schools in Wyandotte County, Kansas. A decade later the program expanded into Jackson County, Missouri and Johnson County, Kansas. Today there are more than 150 students representing 24 high schools and seven school districts participating. The 5-month Metro Leadership Institute for high school seniors successfully completing the 20/20 Leadership program was implemented in 2003. MoKan 20/20 Leadership filed for its own 501 status and received nonprofit status six-weeks later on November 3, 2003.
